Born and raised in the South of England, I came to the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 70's, a wonderful time to be a part of the Women's Movement. During those years I became involved with the Feminist Women's Health Center in Oakland and was a founding member of Birthways, a non-profit Information and Referral service for pregnant women and their families. For the next 9 years I worked as a childbirth educator and doula and non-profit administrator, loving every minute.
In 1983 I gave birth to my daughter, Mzima, at home. This was easily the most joyous, empowering experience of my life. The ensuing 26 years of parenting have been a wondrous challenge and have deeply affected my life work.
Yes, these pics are 24 years old.
In 1986, I trained as a Massage Therapist and more recently as a Reiki practitioner.
In 1991 I earned a certification in Pre - and Perinatal Massage with Carole Osborne-Sheets who continues to be my teacher and mentor as I assist her in her nation wide trainings.
After many years of a private massage practice and teaching prenatal massage at massage schools and spa locations, I was ready to diversify and decided to study for my Esthetician License. I discovered that I love skin care - it has the same nurturing quality as my massage work and the added challenge of learning about the complexities of many skin conditions and treatments.
Currently I maintain my skin care and massage practice in a warm and peaceful healing center in a historic house in central Berkeley.
Don't be deterred by the University Avenue address!
Finally, my volunteer work is primarily with the Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic for low-income women with cancer where I currently offer Reiki sessions with some wonderful results.
I am one of the fortunate people who love their work!
My professional affiliations include membership in:
- The Association of Skin Care Professionals
- The Association of Bodywork and Massage Practitioners
- The International Childbirth Education Association
